What Grounding Actually Means, Without the Spiritual Language

In short

Fernanda defines grounding as bringing your attention out of your head and down into your body. You let the ground hold you, the way a chair holds you at the end of a long day. That pulls attention away from the worry loop. Your breath slows and the out-breath gets longer, and you start to notice where you hold tension. It's why she teaches grounding first and does it every morning, like brushing her teeth.

  • Grounding means bringing your attention out of your head and down into your body.
  • It takes attention away from the worry loop, which needs that attention to keep spinning.
  • When you feel held, you breathe out longer, and your nervous system reads that as safety.

Everyone says it. Ground yourself. Get grounded. And almost nobody says what it actually means. So today I'll say it plainly. What grounding is, what it does to your body, and why I teach it before anything else. No crystals required. I'm Fernanda. I've been an energy healer for over twenty years. And grounding is the first thing I do every morning, the same way I brush my teeth. One thing first. This is a complementary practice. It sits alongside your doctor, never instead of them.

Start with where you live. Most of the day, you live from the neck up. Screens. Messages. Plans. Worries about later. Replaying earlier. Your whole self is up here, and your body is just the thing that carries the head around. And a head with no body under it has nowhere to put anything. So the stress just circles. That's the racing mind at three in the morning. I see it every day in my room. People arrive and they're all head. Fast eyes, tight jaw, breath up in the throat. Twenty minutes later they're a body again. That difference is the whole session.

So here's the plain version. Grounding is bringing your attention out of your head and down into your body. That's it. It's more than noticing your feet. It's letting the ground hold you. The same way the chair holds you when you finally sit down at the end of a long day. For me, it feels like standing at the edge of the ocean, where the waves hit, and your feet sink into the sand a little more with every wave. Or like a tree. Your feet become roots. They go down through the floor, deeper and deeper, all the way to the centre of the earth. And the tree doesn't fall over, whatever the wind does up top. If those pictures feel too much, drop them. Just feel the weight of you being held by the floor. That's grounding too. Same thing, softer words. People sometimes ask me if this is a spiritual thing. For me it is, a little. For you it doesn't have to be. Your body doesn't care what you call it. It only notices that, for one minute, someone came home to it.

Now, why does something this simple change how you feel? As far as I understand it, three things happen at once. One. Your attention leaves the loop. The worry needs your attention to keep spinning. Take it down to your feet, and the loop loses its fuel. Two. Your breath slows on its own. When you feel held, you breathe out longer. And a long breath out is the one signal your nervous system trusts. The danger has passed. Three. You start to notice where you actually hold things. Shoulders. Jaw. Chest. Lower back. You can't release what you can't feel. And you can't feel it from inside your head. That's why grounding comes first, before any other energy work. It's the first step to protecting your energy, because it's the first step to knowing where your energy is. And one honest thing. Once is nice. Daily is where it changes you. It has to become second nature, like brushing your teeth, so it's there on the day you really need it. I've had years when I didn't do it. Busy years, hard years. And my mental health went down with them. When I came back to my feet every morning, the same way as brushing my teeth, everything started to change. So I'm not teaching you a theory. I'm telling you what brought me back.

Let's do one minute of it now, so you know what it feels like. Feet first. Sit back. Both feet on the floor. Let the chair hold you. Feel the weight of you. Really feel it. The floor is holding all of it, and it doesn't mind. Now imagine roots growing out of your feet. Down through the floor. Deeper and deeper. Reaching the centre of the earth. Let them hold you. Breathe in through your nose. And out through your mouth, longer than it came in. Like the tide going out. That little bit of space you feel? That's you, back in your body. That's grounded.

That was one minute. In my ten-day journey, The Nature Reset, we go all the way. Grounding, the breath, releasing what you carry, the trees, the elements and the moon. A few minutes a day, from your chair. The link is below. And if you'd like me to do the grounding with you, in person or from anywhere, there's a link to book a gentle first session too. Nature does the work. Your job is to show up and participate. I'm Fernanda. Come as you are.

Would you like Fernanda to guide you herself? Sessions are online from anywhere, or in person in the Lower Mainland, BC. Or start with the ten-day audio course.
